THEOLOGY

Scripture: Proverbs 14:12 

 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
 

             I.   THE DEFINITION OF THEOLOGY

                  A.  The Study of God and Things pertaining to God

                        1.   Has to do with the way one looks at life

                             / A perspective on life

                             (A)  Two Ways for man to view life

                                    (1) Human perspective

                                        * In the beginning  (Man)

                                    (2) Divine perspective

                                        * In the beginning, God   (Genesis 1:1)

                         Note:

                              > Even Christians can behave in a manner that

                                demonstrates a human perspective on life.

                             >  How a person applies Genesis 1:1 will in large

                                part dictate their course and conduct through

                                life.

                             >  It's possible to live and conduct your life

                                back and forth between the two perspectives

                                which will result in inconsistancy in your

                                christian life.

How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him:

but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

    ( I. Kings 18:21 )

                             > When a Christian wavers between these

                                two perspectives they will be carnal, worldly,

                                materialistic,God-less, and Spiritually fruitless

                                and useless in the cause of Christ.

                                   **The Christian will not lose his salvation

                                      but will loose his distinction and become

                                      more like the world

                    II.   DEFINITION OF THEOLOGY

                         A.   Theology

                                =) The science of God and of the relationship

                                    between God and the universe

                                =)  The Study of things divine

                  III.     DERIVATIONS OF THEOLOGY

                          A.   Theology comes from two greek words,

                                 namely, "theos" = God,  and  "logos" = word,

                                 speech or reason

                                  1)  Perspective thats based upon God's

                                      reasoning,   or also based upon his

                                      word.

                          B.   Etymologically, theology means a reasoned

                                discourse or treatise about God.   ( Isaiah 1:18 )

                              =) The Bible is God's Way of reasoning with

                                  mankind about his life and the environment

                                  or the world around him
